Is it just me or are people becoming increasingly rude and inconsiderate? I ride the train to and from work every day and have witnessed this.
First, there are the smokers. I believe the mind of a smoker tells them to walk just fast enough so that the nonsmoker behind them can't pass him/her. This same mind has a smoker blocking the entry to the Walgreens Pharmacy that I'm entering to get my asthma medication. Might you let me get over my asthma before allowing me the courtesy of contacting emphysema? Should my lungs collapse, I’d like for it to be from some new disease, not from an old hand-me-down, like secondhand smoke!
And lets hear it for those other inconsiderate folks who, unlike my four-year-old niece, like to cough without covering their mouths. Isn’t this learned the first week in preschool, along with the color blue? While the swine flu may leave a great taste in your mouth, how about you keep it there.
And don’t think the people changing lanes without signaling are off the hook. You do realize that you paid for the signal when you purchased the car, right? You won’t be charged for each instance of signal usage. So go ahead, get your money’s worth. Use it even if you’re not changing lanes. Just use it.
I just don't understand people who don't grasp or practice common courtesy or use common since. How about I walk ahead of a smoker, all the while spraying a can of Raid insect spray (the one for outdoor use), as if it was Chanel No.5? (And yes, I seriously consider this Every. Single. Day.).
I so want to like you, but you're making it hard for me.
I can see where you are coming from, I also have a pet peeve with rudeness, but with that said, I don't think anyone would intentionally walk slow just to be rude while smoking. Maybe Im wrong, but I would think if a smoker is walking slow, it's because they are trying to finish smoking the cigarette they have lit, and probably don't realize that they are in your way. If I was in that situation I would simply walk faster, and say "escuse me" to pass them. As far as someone blocking the walgreen's entrance, well that's just unacceptable and ridiculous, so I can see your iritation with that. Shame on them! As for rude driver's, I am with you completely, they get under my skin all the time, and cause me to you use some choice words, which is my way of venting with them. So well said! People do make it hard sometimes, I agree. However, I believe we also need to learn tolerance, because I'm sure at times we all have been unconscious to those around us and possibly been labeled as rude ourselves.
ReplyDeleteI love this post! The rant while still being comical is almost like a stand up routine. I myself am a fellow train commuter and feel your pain! It's almost as if common sense isn't so common anymore, and don't get me started on chivalry (I'm looking at you 20 something year old hipster who fell "asleep" the second an elderly person or pregnant woman walks on the train). I love the Raid idea, please post a video after you do it! While I agree with Christy about learning tolerance, sometimes it's just nice to get everything off your chest, and this blog seems like a great vehicle to do so!
