Relaxing Vacation...NOT

This weekend I went to Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, just to get away and relax.  I had been looking forward to this for some time now as I hadn't been on vacation since September and was in need of a short break.  We'd reserved a one bedroom villa, which included a jucuzzi tub, fireplace, and a full kitchen.  It was going to be sweet.

Famous.  Last.  Words.

Imagine my surprise when I opened the door and saw the bed.  Right there!  Next to a window, no less.  And this window, it faces directly onto the walkway outside our door.  The bedding, floral.  Upon walking down the hall, I come upon the living room and "full kitchen".  And by full kitchen, I mean microwave, mini bar, and sink.  That beautiful fireplace, yeah, it's not working.

I immediately get on the phone to call the front desk who can't help because I didn't book through them.  But while trying to get a new room, I realize that I'm having a hard time hearing the front desk agent.  The kids both above and next to my room, have been dialed up to ten and the knob has been broken.

I always thought I was so fortunate not to have kids.  I could come and go as I pleased.  I didn't have to share.  I could watch R rated movies whenever I liked.  However, if I'd had kids, I would've realized that spring break season had started.

I was able to get the front desk to move me to a different room after 45 minutes of complaining and having them tell me that nothing else was available.  And for what it's worth, I could have stayed in the original room since the noise level was basically the same.  The room was just more modern.

I normally check hotel reviews at tripadvisor.com before booking any hotel room.  I don't consider the good reviews, I always check the negative ones.  Those are the ones that matter.  Had I checked, I would have seen the review stating that the walls are paper thin.  I also would have seen that several people had been duped by the description of the room.  They didn't get what they were promised via the resorts website.  I also would have seen the reviw posted last week referring to the noisy teens who were there for spring break.

I understand this is there time to cut loose and be free and have fun.  However, at 2:00AM?  Really?!  Is it asking too much of the parents to still extend common courtesy to their neighbors and have the kids keep it down?  How about the running in the halls at 11:00PM?  Is that OK?  I don't believe so.  What happened to "inside voices"?  I'm starting to believe that "inside voices" are urban legend.  Did they ever exist?  Or common courtesy for that matter.

I'm now in need of a vacation, from my mini vacation.
